Following are the Types of Dams:

Classification of dams on the basis of materials used in dam construction

  1. Rigid Dams (Concrete dams, steel dams, timber dams etc)
  2. Non-Rigid dams (Beam Design Formulas , rockfill dams)

Classification of dam types with respect to size/height of the dam

  1. Low dam / Small dam (How to build small dams)
  2. Medium dams
  3. High dam / Large dams

Classification of dam according to its purpose/use

  1. Water supply dam/Irrigation dams
  2. Power dams
  3. Multipurpose dams
  4. Flood control dams

Answered: difference between notch & weir??? //www.angierios.com/answers/1880/difference-between-notch-weir?show=3418#a3418 Notches are openings which is used to measure discharge through it. However a weir is a notch but in a very large scale.

A Notch is used to measure relatively smaller discharge(examples include discharge in a flume, water lining etc) while a weir is used to measure larger discharge(examples are discharge in a stream or river, strome discharge etc.)

Dam:-
• Dams are artificial barriers across a flowing river or any other natural water body that are meant to obstruct, direct, or slow down the flow of water, thus creating a reservoir or a lake.
Ex: Nagarjuna sagar Dam

Barrage:-
• A barrage is an artificial obstruction at the mouth of a river that is used to increase its depth to assist in navigation or for irrigation purposes.
Ex: Doweleshwaram Barrage

Answered: purpose of barrage //www.angierios.com/answers/1675/purpose-of-barrage?show=2971#a2971 Barrage consists of a line of large gates that can be opened or closed to control the amount of water passing the dam. The gates are set between flanking piers which are responsible for supporting the water load. They are often used to control and stabilize water flow of rivers for irrigation systems. Gravity //www.angierios.com/answers/962/define-sp-gravity?show=2792#a2792 Specific gravity is the ratio of specific weight of a fluid to the specific weight of a standard fluid. For liquids, the standard fluid chosen for compassion is pure water at 4 degree celsius. For gases the standard fluid chosen is either hydrogen or air at some specifed temperature and pressure. The specific gravity of water at the standard temperature is equal to 1 while that of mercury is 13.6. 1. Design discharge
2. HFL
3. Minimum flow through the year
4. Maximum flow during the year etc
for detail design process plz send me these parameters so that i can design a spillway for u so that u can better understand it.(www.enggpedia.com)
